Dé-connectons | Game & Mediation Tools

"Dé-connectons" / "Dis-connect"
Diploma Project / Bachelor's degree (Applied Arts & Design) / 2014-2015

For my Bachelor's degree project, I chose to explore a contemporary fact: the smartphone addiction and how have our smartphones completely changed our perception and relationship to others, to the world and to ourselves (question treated in my Memoir).
With my project called "Dé-connectons" ("Dis-connect"), I decided to think about the role that the graphic designer can play in this phenomenon.

So I developed a project that aims to raise people's awareness about the problem of constant misuse of the smartphone. By taking place during an existing french event: the World Days Without Cell Phones and Smartphones, the project aims to challenge the user and to involve him during three days with a real unifying goal. In this project, the role of the graphic designer is to be a mediator who must imagine how he can guide the participants to enable them to develop their own solutions to the problems raised. This project allows users to approach disconnection on the tone of humor, not as a constraint or an obligation, but as a means to develop a reflection which then allows a more rational use of our smartphones.

Mediation games : "Back to basics"

Different games are proposed to interact during the event. These games can be downloaded or ordered directly on the website by anyone, these mediation tools allow to talk about disconnection on a humoristic way and are actually also a way to disconnect !
For example, "Back to basics" is a booklet coming with a creation kit. Various materials are in this creative kit that offers to imagine objects that can be used instead of the smartphone. It invites the user to create buffer and skits to illustrate and share the solutions devised one or several.
Mediation games : "Find an alternative"

The card game "Find an alternative" is the media for creative activities and a mediation tool to initiate discussions. It is designed as a tool to initiate a reflexive debate around the use of the smartphone. Blank cards allow the users to complete the game and make changes over debate and ideas that emerge.
Mediation games : "Protocols game"

Like the card game, the protocols game allows to see the everyday situations that might not need to use a smartphone. Based on the same principle as "exquisite corpse" game, it provides another way to start debates.
