Character Design Project

In this project we were asked to create two original characters, a Protagonist and Antagonist. Along with creating the characters we required to make a 3-D Maquette of each character, A vectorized pose of both characters and Model and Turn Around sheets.

We had to choose from a list of topics/themes to base our characters on, The topic I chose was "Mythology". I first started to brainstorm all the different cultures around the world that I found intresting and finally I decided to pick Egyptian Mythology. I based my characters on two well know Ancient Egyptian Gods - Osiris : The God of the Afterlife, Death, Life and Ressurection.

Set : The God of Deserts, Storms, Disorder and Violence. I also picked these two characters because they are part of a famous/important tale in Egyptian Mythology. Osiris was beloved by his people while he ruled in Egypt, helping them with all aspects of life (food, housing etc). Set began to resent his brother because of the love he got from the egyptian people so he murdered his brother and took control of the throne. Osiris' body was dissmembered and scattered all over the Egyptian lands. After a long and difficult search his wife was able to locate all of Osiris' body with the aid from thoth and bread life into him once again. This alloud Osiris' to concieve a child with his wife Isis.

The child was named Horus, although he was weak and venerable as a child he grew up to rival Sets throne. The story says Horus defeats and kills Set and takes his place as ruler of Egypt. He avenges his father and restores balance to Egypt. Osiris now completes his ressurection and becomes a "God".
