Breaking the Mould

Breaking the Mould
'Art making and promotion is a full time job one that takes hard work and you are always learning'
I first started having my passion for when I could pick up a pencil, I knew in my soul and heart this is what I was born to do. I've always enjoyed everything creative, but the means to express one self visually can not be replaced by any other job. I have studied traditional art from ancients to modern day contemporaries. The way I see art is that its primary focus is a meaning and purpose. Everything in life has a purpose. To me arts purpose is to provoke feelings and ask questions. It should also challenge boundaries and break the mould of what already exists. Your work shouldn't never be in the style of but your work should represent you as a person. I am colorful loud person and color is used a lot in my work to provoke feeling. Along with the political and social meanings attached to my life's work so far.
Art should be a struggle and shouldn't be easy as if it's easy then you are no longer pushing yourself out of your boundaries. I believe in having a diverse range of art and not just one style. Learning as many trades as possible to achieve your goals in life. I was lucky enough to experience many trades whilst at university and at my school.

I grew up in Cheshunt in Hertfordshire, my dad was a gardener and my mum was a housewife. We weren't flash family we didn't have much but we all shared one thing hard work and the determination to succeed. I didn't have much support in terms of what I want to do. My family very much wanted me to have a job that would simply pay the bills but I want to follow my heart and my heart says creative in any form. When at Turnford I mastered Product Design getting 98% on everything and creative wise I don't think this is challenging enough, as long as you know how the use the software to rest is pretty much straightforward. During studying Product Design I learned about function and purpose and visual appeal. Also how to make productivity cost effective. I know how to use 2d designer, Pro-desktop and promotional material was done on coral draw. I shall have find these works at some point to show the world.  Also at Turnford I have learned about Black and white film processing and producing artwork in the darkroom.  Also varying styles of art and processes. At Staffordshire University I really had a passion for graphic design but this soon changed once I saw what the work was about sitting at desk using computer aided programs didn't really appeal to me. So I did the foundation , they offered me Product design but as i explained this doesn't really challenge me.
On Foundation study at Staffordshire University I learned more processes silkscreen, clay, metal, wood, plastics, painting, life drawing, and how to journals effectively. On my degree using all my skills I focused on my practice that you see today.

The piece 'Breaking the mould' is my imprint on this world of me saying this me, give me a chance and you may like what you see. It also demonstrates frustrated people have trying to break into the market and the cracks represent my art spreading into the art world.
