Avant-Garde. The book about Herb Lubalin.
This book is my project for the Advance Typography class at UMBC. The first part of the assignment was a research about the typographer and second to create a book layout. In 2011 there were barely any books about Herb Lubalin. After looking at 1980 advertising in New York and doing type analysis for Avant Grade typeface, I felt in love with Herb Lubalin's work. By designing this book I wanted to create the ode to Herb Lubalin and New York. I worked directly with Professor Guenet Abraham, who helped to turn my project into an 80 page book about Herb Lubalin's life before and after Avant-Garde typeface.
