This project was all about ideation.  The premise was to design a toy made of one material and rubber bands.  We were tasked with coming up with 250 different ideas and to narrow down to something interesting and fun.
One of my earlier concepts was a hand that you could sit on your desk and arrange into any position that you wanted. But this idea was more sculptural and I wanted something fun.  So I made a toy robot.
This is an early protype of the final design.  It may have a creepy face, but as soon as this was put together, I knew that I had a great idea on my hands, but something was still missing.

I went back and did a few more sketches.  I wanted to somehow make the head fly off if you shot it, but with the head being an integral part of the design, I didn't want a child to lose it.  It dawned on me that instead of going up, I could make the head go down into the body.  This way, the only part that would be lost is a simple wooden block that can easily be replaced.
The pieces are stained and ready for assembly.
Overall, I was very pleased with this design.  It is safe to say that this was one of my most successfull projects.  The only thing that I would have liked to improve was how well the pieces lined up.  As you can see from the photos, the shoulders come up a little high and the elbows stick out a little bit.

This was easily my favorite school related project.
