BOOKSTORE DESIGN
University design project_3th year
PROJECT: Creating a new space of the retail function based on the available classroom area.

I have chosen the bookstore as the my design subject. Using the area of two available classrooms, I have eliminated all the partitions, the balcony and the entrances to make a new space with three main areas: reading zone, book exhibition, and cashier. However, I have had to keep the two existing voids as well as all the concrete columns, one of which was located in the middle of the new entrance.

SOLUTION:

I have transformed that column into a book spine of a giant book where I put the name of the publisher, PageOne. That made the “wrong” position of that column become logical and practicable.

The facade of the bookstore were made by huge glass and aluminum partition which turned into the first four pages of the book, where the slogan of the publisher were written.

Inside the space, I have hidden the concrete column by different shapes of the bookshelves. Those were not only places to display the new products of the publisher, but also the partitions, which were lower gradually from the entrance to the end of the room, making the space rhythmic and concentrative. That also help the room saving energy by getting more daylight from the big window, especially for the reading area.
