Lately I've had a fixation on buoys. There is something kind of romantic about these things lulling around in the middle of the ocean on a clear summer day, or riding out a stormy nor-easter -- being thrashed and pummeled by giant swells and wind. All the while, dutifully collecting and transmiting data that will help us to better understand weather patterns and our marine environment. 44025 is a buoy that sits off of Long Island, New York, and transits current weather and marine data regularly throughout the day. This animation was concieved as an introduction to another project currently in progress -- a project that uses the buoy's collected data to create real time, interactive data visualisations.
