EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION: Double Page Spread

Brief:
We were given a task to choose one article out of the five articles to choose from and do an illustration which can be effective and approach to the subject of the article. The image created must persuade the reader to read the article, due to the visual interest from the illustration. Then after be able to combine or marry illustration and text, making the two to work together on a double page spread..
Concept:
The concept of my illustration was based on a quote from the article when Lerato Tshabalala (2011:_.) wrote that “At busy shopping malls you can understand when a car guard tells you to stop or reverse, but normally you are perfectly capable of reversing all by yourself.” (project-brief). And that’s the reality that happens not only on shopping malls but also busy streets that allocate for parking like West str. In Durban, were you find car guards to ready give assistance to drivers who want to park their cars and receive a tip after that. So I wanted my illustration to show a car guard giving directions for a driver who is parking their car, and the view of the illustration is from a close angle from the side mirror. Were the viewer/reader sees the illustration from a side mirror’s perspective, as if the driver is looking at the reader “side mirror” to get assistance from the car guard.
I took a screenshot from Adobe Illustrator of vecter line work illustrator. From then on started applying flat colours on the closed objects, and gradient on the car body, back light and steering wheel. The car guard just flat colours.
