Skype Workshop Brief

Overview;
Skype is a product that enables the world’s conversations. Every day, hundreds of millions of people everywhere on the planet use Skype to do amazing things together whenever they’re apart.
Asynchronous dialogue (think instant messaging) is the biggest growing mode of communications today. Let’s make it richer and more expressive.

The Problem;
Skype’s instant messaging is very standard. Skype only has emoticons, text and visual styling of ‘chat bubbles’. However, other apps are gaining round, experimenting with new features, allowing people to communicate more dynamically.

The Brief;
Feel. Be. Do. Together.

What Skype Wants;
1. Redefine the default asyncronous experience, both interactively and visually
2. Introduce and invent new features for async communications, to both businesses and consumers alike.

Don’t let tech be a barrier, do what’s right for the user, everything else will follow. Have fun, think smart.
Approach;
Technology hinders us. It limits what we can do and how we interract.

Use technology to enhance relationships/personal interractions via Skype
With technology helping not hindering, can do the things you would normally do if you were with someone in person
Addresses ‘feeling’ and ‘doing’ together aspect of the brief.
Integrate into Skype as it is. Across platform; tablet, mobile device, desktop etc.

Concepts;
Group profiles. Events. Linking to other apps.

Create ‘groups’ which enable users to organise events quickly and easily. ‘Events’ can be watching a film, having a family dinner etc, all things you would normally do if you were there in person.
Link to other apps such as Netflix, Kindle etc.

Users can vote on which movie they want to watch through various On Demand and streaming services, and stream in sync together. They can access various books through Kindle; from novels to childrens picture books; enabling parents to read their child their bedtime story no matter where they are- providing seperate views for both child and parent. All functions offer text chat, voice, or video call.

The events and group functions make creating and organising events fast and simple.
