I born in a devout Catholic family. However, paradoxically, I love Taiwanese temples.

Since I was a child, my father, a junior high school history teacher, has brought my family to explore many Taiwan historical sites and many of them are old temples. I really enjoy admiring those beautiful and exquisite decorations in the temples. Each of the decoration has their own meaning. As a person who has a connection between these contrastive religions — Daoism and Catholic, I decided to create a series of symbols.

These symbols integrate Taiwanese temples' decoration with Catholicism objects.

The symbol's left side resembles the Daoism object and the right side resembles Catholic. I choose an oriental blue and a faint yellow to represent eastern and western images. I divide these symbols into two sorts — relative to objects and relative to meaning.

OBJECTS
— Two related objects in each religion have different meaning

The peony is a kind of flower used to represent rich and wealth. The lily is used to symbolizing innocent and pureness of a person's mind. The censer and Holy Grail are both bowl-shaped containers. The censer is a container which used to place incense. Holy Grail is used to contain wine and bread in Mass. The pagoda and the church are both buildings. A pagoda is a place where the ancestors live. The church is a place where God lives and where people worship God.

MEANINGS
—The meaning of different objects is similar in religions

The vase and the pigeon both mean safeness and hope. The dragon and the holy face both mean the figure of God. The symbol "卍" and the cross are both religion's symbol. The eight diagrams and hand of God both mean the control of world system.
