copia is an interactive project from the 4th semester. It's an application which provides you from information overload. And gives an overview of what happend during the day.

Every day you will get the six most relevant news topics of a day. An algorithm is checking whether the news is relevant or not. This depends on the social activity from a topic. A topic which was often tweeted or commented can be more important than the most viewed topic of the day.

Concept

In a world where everything is getting faster, it's getting increasingly complicated to focus on the really important news and to get rid of information overload. copia is based on the principle of simultaneousness. Every day at 6 p.m. the tool will search for new topics. These topics will last for the next 24 hours. After that they are gone forever and can't be accessed anymore.

copia gives a view beyond one's own nose while delivering insights into society.

But copia isn't only a tool to read news. It's a tool to immerge into an topic. Which opinions exist to this topic? What do other news channels say? What do the locals say? When was the first time a topic was mentioned?

Interaction

In copia all interaction is made with a single button. This button has different states with different functions. If you want to have a look on a topic simply drag it to the button and copia will open it. To go back you can do this with a click on the same button. This interface allows you to interact with copia as good on a tablet as on a pc. For a more experimental interaction on larger screens it will be possible to interact by using a Leap Motion.

Vision

The vision behind copia is to change the way how we interact with news in the future. copia will be able to combine articles from all over the world. But not only articles. With the help of YouTube, Twitter, Periscope, Instagram, Podcasts, ... you will have access to a lot of different media types.

The algorithm will become intelligent. It can recognize and filter important news with the help of machine learning. You will then be able to look into a topic from different angles in an easy way.

copia will serve you an multimedial objectiv view for the most important news of the day.

Demo

Copia isn't a final product but it's more than a rare prototype. Because of restriction by the APIs I only offer a version with demo data showing the current state of copia.
