Miniboard Collector’s Edition
Everything displayed in this portfolio is part of my graduation project.
Following the trend 2015 I developed this miniboard series.
The board is made of high-quality premium wood, whose underside is provided with an elegant, durable coating.
Subsequently, the lower deck design is engraved with the help of a laser.
This is how the limited "Miniboard Collectors Edition" is created.
Music recommendation
To get into the right mood I recommend the track "Amsterdam" by LASERS from the LASERS EP.
Logo
The first idea after the finding and sketching phase was to modify a skateboard to look like an open book lying flat on the table.
As the logo evolved, colleagues and friends interpreted it in different ways after I asked them what they saw in it.
One recognized a wise owl with big bushy eyebrows, telling them a story - the "face of the brand", so to speak.
Someone else recognized a "fairy tale cassette" from the past that brings back some good childhood memories.

Colour Scheme
The colours are based on the RAL palette with later production in mind.
Afterwards they were converted into the two main colour spaces - CMYK and RGB. The colour values were taken over as accurately as possible.
It adds a beautiful texture that can be interpreted as the griptape of the board.
The wood grain, which is reminiscent of craftsmanship, is also part of the design of printed products.
Typography
The typography of Storyboard is clear and yet playful.
The Brushscript "Journey" by Emil Bertell impresses the design with a handmade storybook.
The elegant and grounded font "Hansom FY", a font by FONTYOU as sans-serif and slabs, which is easy to read in flowing texts, is used as a counterpart.
Characters
The theme that I have chosen as the starting point for the character designs is »International stories of German origin«.
I have chosen three characters from the Brothers Grimm stories, which are well known all over the world.
Some remember them from their childhood, the younger generation knows them from current films, TV series and games.
Story Booklet
Each board comes with a small 3.15" booklet that individually matches the character seen on the deck.
The booklet contains the story of the character interpreted from a modern perspective into the present day, along with inspiring photos of skateparks and skaters doing tricks to get you in the right mood.

Die-Cut-Stickers
In addition, each character in the series has their own tag as a sticker with the matching catch phrase, which refers to skating.
The sticker also contains the QR code to the microsite.
Deck Designs
The final prototype was first finished with a coating of RAL 5003 Sapphire Blue and in the next step the coating was removed with a laser in areas the motive would be visible. The contrast happens through the different material but also through colour. In addition a nice haptical feeling was established.
Billboards and Posters
Posters and billboard designs with ambiguous headlines based on the displayed character and skateboarding promote the series.
A1 Poster – nighttime: the white regions of the character area has a special reflective coating that will flash when hit by a spotlight.
