This was my first exercise in designing from a specific concept. I was inspired to do this through a Feng Zhu Design Cinema video in which he took descriptive text of mythological creatures and redesigned them to spec, and gradually pushed beyond spec. I did a simple search for mythological creatures, and found the Hippalectryon, a Greek mythological creature that is half rooster and half horse.

 

This was a LOT of fun! I did this out of inspiration and curiosity, with the plus side of it adding to experience and my portfolio, and the experience was rewarding. I plan to do a couple of redesigns of the Hippalectryon and test the boundaries, it seems like it would be fun!! I definitely recommend this as a playful exercise in creativity and designing to spec to all artists.
