LE PREMIER GOÛT - Packaging/Product Concept

Packaging Project Brief

Project Brief: a second year University project brief where we were set to design a new product and packaging concept to hit the shelves of the supermarket. The concept should be an original, refreshing idea which will challenge and demonstrate your diversity.

Concept: there are over 600 named varieties of Garlic, and it is the UK’s favourite herb; yet in British supermarkets we can only purchase a couple of types. Premier Goût brings together three types of garlic from across the world into one piece of stylish packaging. This product provides the opportunity for the consumer to experience and embrace a variety of different types of Garlic and the tastes which accompany them. Premier Goût is aimed at anyone wishing to explore the realms of different cultures within their recipes. Although, realistically I would see this product appealing to people over the age of 30.

Goal: to create a new and exciting product and packaging design to hit the shelves of our supermarkets.

Outcome: appealing shelf appearance, thorough market research, would work well as gifting product, novel idea, nice shape. Although, questions on cross-contamination, how easy is it to open and how efficiently a manufacturing process could create the package.

Moving Forward: conducting more first hand research and product feedback to ensure I get a different perspective, and that I really do think about all possibilities and downsides which could be an issue.

Personal Rating: 7.5/10, thoroughly enjoyable project; the whole process was fast paced and tested my versatility and ability to solve problems in a lot of different situations throughout a variety of different processes. Being away from the pixels and digital nature of things was a breath of fresh air, and a valued opportunity when given the brief to find packaging solutions, but then coming back to digital terms for the final design etc brought me back to my comfort zone. There were some clear pointers that I should have considered looking back, but overall I am satisfied with how the project went. Obviously the finished product could have been finished to a higher standard, but University facilities are limited, so I had to work with what I'm available to. Ultimately, packaging is an industry which I had never even considered in the creative industry, but it's now something I will contemplate delving into in future projects to come.

..If you can spare a second to thumbs up the project, leave a comment, and share the love, it would be most appreciated! I hope you enjoyed the browse! Take care.
