Ash to Ash
'Ash to ash' is a table made by ash designed and built during a course project at the Free University of Bolzano. The choice of the ash is not casual, but the intention of using a dead material, a waste. The ash represents the end of the wood in this case. Therefore I wanted to combine the ash with the wood by which it comes from, to show the passage between life and death and in particoular between the materials we use and their waste. A natural epoxy resin has been used to keep the ash together and to create a new and solid material. The legs of the table are four branches found in Brunico, a small village in Süd Tirol (the ash also comes from there). In this place there is a station where the wasted wood is burned and the produced energy is used for the heating. The branches then have been cleaned by hand in order to preserve their natural shape.
