Inspiration for this mural came from the book "Seven daughters of Eve" by Bryan Sykes, in which the author explains the principles of genetics, human evolution and the way in which person’s maternal ancestry is traced by mitochondrial DNA (I highly recommend reading this book). He also talks about analyses of ancient DNA that genetically link modern humans to their prehistoric ancestors. This made me think about the past and the time in which the world functioned totally different from the way it does today - the time of hunters & gatherers. My unconscious reaction to this was involving the elements that I read about into the sketches that I was making on the beach during my vacation (quite a relaxing one). More or less in the same time the invitation to participate in the project came from the client and fortunately the topic perfectly fitted their needs!
