Mind the Head is focused on the structure of the mind. I portrayed this through a photographic journey of an individuals struggle choosing between immediate gratification through the use of drugs, and how in doing so the individual’s mind begins to deconstruct leading to a downward spiral of the self. Often ruin is the road to transformation. This vicious cycle of drug use an individual partakes in consists of using the part of the mind where instant satisfaction surpasses the realization that the undesirable effects have forced the individual to hit rock bottom in order for the minds transformation for the better. Inorder to convey this I used the photographic style of photographers including Nan Goldin, and Larry Clark. These photographers are known for their use of grunge style, incorporating drug-use, and their candid imagery. I glamorized drug-use by replacing actual drugs with items including glitter, streamers, confetti, and bubbles, while making the imagery have a snap shot aesthetic.
