Design-concept of "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" by Arthur Conan Doyle is a degree project.

Main idea of said project is in the literal interpretation of its title: this edition is shaped as an actual travel diary of Dr. Watson, with hastily scraped notes and pictures on its margins.

6 stories, 17 illustrations, 72 illustrations and inscriptions on margins.

Основная идея, которой подчинены все элементы макета - буквальная интерпретация названия сборника: оформление издания в виде дневника доктора Уотсона, с пометками и путевыми зарисовками на полях.

Illustrations are made with ink on the watercolour base. Ink contour was made on the damp paper,

which goes well with the idea of hastily made travel illustrations.

The idea of a travel journal leads to the quite special order of stories inside this book -

namely, the stories are arranged in chronological order, not in the order of their publishing.

The dates below stand for the period of the events described in the story

(in according to one of the theories of the Holmes and Watson's lives chronology)

Иллюстрации выполнены пером по акварельной подложке. Техника отрисовки контура по влажной бумаге работает на идею набросочности путевых заметок.

Концепция путевого дневника ведёт к специфическому упорядочиванию рассказов внутри книги, а именно -

к расположению рассказов в хронологическом поряде, а не в порядке выхода рассказов в печать.

Указанные ниже даты соответствуют периоду происходящих в рассказе событий

(согласно одной из теоретических хронологий жизни Холмса и Уотсона)

A large curved retort was boiling furiously in the bluish flame of a Bunsen burner, and the distilled drops were condensing into a two-litre measure.
