A Cup of Garden '15

As known; in the Middle East and Africa, coffee takes a huge part and importance in the culture even before the 10th Century. Coffee was initially used for spiritual reasons. Still today in Ethiopia and in many cultures, coffee is consumed as part of ritual lasting up to an hour. This ritual is mostly made in order to share the coffee with guests or with other people in gatherings. Even though the coffee culture didn't change in the Middle Eastern and African cultures; in time and with the spread of coffee drinking culture, the amount and the way of drinking coffee changed in order to daily caffeine needs; together with it,  the concept of socially shared taste- pleasure and the spiritual reasons also left it's place to individual needs of caffeine and personal pleasure of the taste.

 

Under the concept of individualistic cities and cultures; coffee and  garden cultures both are changing from social pleasures to private pleasures. While in big cities it can be hard to reach the nature; private and little gardens are leaving its place to huge common gardens. In todays time, instead of gatherings and meetings, gardens are mostly used to spend individual time or not even used at all because of daily work and life routines of society. Thus, the garden or natural area is shared with so many people at the same time, but nothing else is shared in between those people.

 

The more the individualism growth the less the pleasure of the share tasted. With the combination of shared but non enjoyed garden and enjoyed but non shared coffee, the project is aimed to find the perfect joy of a city life. The cup of garden, is to be shared with unknown people; who desires of  garden, coffee and sharing together in an individualistic irony.
