Diabetes a Pop-Up Infographic

This pop-up infographic book explains the location of the pancreas in our body, includes a glossary of medical terms and a dynamic pop-up game explaining the process of digestion when we consume food, after this explains Diabetes Mellitus type 1 and 2.

The context
Diabetes Mellitus is one of the chronic diseases that causes the highest death rate in the world and affects both children and adults. My grandfather had Diabetes and I wanted to understand and be able to explain the illness because it is important to know in-depth about how this disease originates in order to could prevent it. The most important challenge was using easier terms to people who do not understand medical/scientific terminology through an infographic with pop-up mechanisms.

Responsabilities
I made a scheme and organized the information architecture, taking into account the following steps: Principal function of the Pancreas, what relationship it has with food in addition to the relationship between Insulin and Glucose. All the information was really extensive and necessary so the Diabetes could be fully understood. So I decided to divide the infographic into three steps in the book with all the processes from the food to the process of insuline and then explained how the disease develops.

• Designed a visual rhythm with the contrast of colors for the changes of stages within the book.
• Wrote the content in a friendly tone to explain complex medical terms.
• Applied the same concept into the illustrations and the color palette because I looked for them to be pleasing to the eye and not generate rejection for being a health theme, so as to the solution.
• Illustrated a complete synthesis of the organs of the human body that were related to Diabetes.

Solution
An infographic book consisting of ten pages with illustrations and didactic pop-up mechanisms, which explain step by step where the Pancreas is located in our body, what is it the Pancreas?, a glossary with terms and their meanings, a didactic game It shows the behavior of glucose and insulin when we eat where the person can interact by moving the pieces and making a part of the digestive process. Once all of the above was understood, I went on to explain what is Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
