Once in a while we just like to play. No clients, no briefings, no budget… just us and the range of possibilities that 26 letters/shapes offer us.
In the beginning of July we went to Abrantes (Portugal). We made the graphic image of 180 Creative Camp — 180 Creative Camp is an original concept by Canal180 that will bring to the town of Abrantes, Portugal, some of the most innovative international creators in the areas of video, music, photography, design, cinema, architecture, installation and fine arts. One week, international artists like the street artist Insa (UK), Plastique Fantastique (GR), Christopher Derek Bruno (U.S.A) or the director Alex Turvey (U.K), an amazing city and great a weather and people. So, we couldn’t stay with arms crossed.
We started thinking what we could do for the city. Just make something to leave there and make people smile. Because Abrantes is a small city we came across several daily life stores and ask the owners for common expressions of clients. With that we would make some king of type sculpture and glue it in the walls of the city. Using a laser cut machine, we get 3D wood letters. To increase the power of the meaning of the expressions we were working with we bought some objects related to the theme. So, with that elements we were able to create type sculpture and leave it around the city in many different spots where people walk across on they daily life. One of the most enjoyable/funny sculpture was the one about the Butcher. We use the wonderful expression “is to cut thin Mr. Manel” and added a plastique cow.
