The Invisible Man (H. G. Wells) Book Cover

For this university project (re-visited), I was told to choose a book of a certain list of penguin classics. I decided to choose The Invisible Man because it's not the normal kind of book genre I would personally read. The Invisible Man is about Griffin, a creative scientist that has himself invisible  trying is to find an antidote, but when the village he is staying at turn against him, things go horribly wrong.

I wanted to make this book cover modern but keep a classic twist.. To bring a classic element into a modern style design, I decided to do it through type. During the 1980's when The Invisible Man was set, the fountain pen was mass produced - This is why I decided to use a fountain style calligraphy pen to handwrite the title and authors name.  The other reason I decided to handwrite the font was because (spoiler alert) Griffin writes and uses a lot of notes throughout the book.

The design idea behind the book is as though when you take the dust jacket off, the silhouette disappears just like Griffin would disappear when he takes off his jacket (or coat).

I decided to go for black and white to help with the whole modern and somewhat minimalistic look and design of the cover.
