For the Penguin Book Cover Competition 2015, I created a new possible cover for the book:
Oranges are not the only fruit written by Jeanette Winterson. Which was one of the three books in the competition available for choice.

The book follows the story of teenager Jeanette and visualises the struggles of coming out as a lesbian in a religious family and enviroment. Throughout the story there is a heavy use of symbolism which I chose to use  as a fundamental key for my design.

The illustration of an orange represents the heavily present religion and any other feelings or events resisting the main character's coming out. Whilst the shadow of an apple and the shadow of a pear on the back of the book, embodies the conclusion of the story; “Oranges are NOT the only fruit.”
