Civil Campaign to Protect Dalieh
لقد اجتمعنا كائتلاف أهلي من الأفراد المهتمّين/ات بصيانة إمكانية العيش في بيروت، للمناصرة من أجل حماية الواجهة البحرية للمدينة كمساحة مشتركة ومتاحة للدخول، يمكن لكافة السكان والزائرين استخدامها بشكل حرّ. ويدفعنا في سعينا هذا حبّ مشترك لهذه المدينة في تنوّعها الاجتماعي والبيئي، بالإضافة إلى رغبة حثيثة وملحّة بتكريس المقاربات الديموقراطية في صناعة القرارات المتعلّقة بانتاج وتنظيم المساحات اليومية في بيروت. ومن هذا المنطلق، نخالف أولئك القائلين بأن بيروت «مدينة قبيحة» والراثين وجهَها الذي كان جميلاً في ما مضى. إنّ رسالتنا موجّهة إلى كافة السكّان، ونحن ندعوهم/ن جميعاً للانضمام إلينا في النضال من أجل حقّهم/ن في المدينة، مدينة يعجز فيها رأس المال عن غلبة رغبات الأكثرية في توسيع وتحسين المشاعات المشتركة فيها
"As a coalition of individuals invested in safeguarding Beirut’s livability, we have come together to advocate for the protection of the city's seafront facade as a shared-space, open access zone. We are propelled by a shared love of the city in its social and ecological diversity. We take issue with those calling Beirut 'an ugly city' and mourning its once beautiful face. Our message is directed to all city dwellers; we invite everyone to join us in struggling for her/his right to the city, a city where private capital cannot trump the desires of the urban majorities."
