THEATRE IN POBLENOU

THEATRE IN POBLENOU (BARCELONA), SPAIN

This project is situated on the 22@ area of Barcelona. It is on the Poblenou district. The adjacent streets of the building are very significant for the city. I take care of them in order to generate better urbanization around the building.

First of all, I have done some diagrams to explain the main ideas of the building and its functionality.

On the first one, I took a look about the dimensions of streets in relation to the site. It is because I needed to decide how big the building could be. The site was too big and it was almost empty.

Another important thing was the traffic. It has a very important street, Pere IV, which it has a lot of traffic. To be comfortable with the theatre I should decide the position of the theatre. Obviously, as far as I can of this big street. To emphasize this comfort, I decided to create a "green filter" because it absorbs the acoustic waves.

The noise and the visual impact were the main problems of the site. So I diced to move the building as far as I can from Pere IV Street to prevent this uncomfortable situations. As a result of this, I could project a green area to prevent this both impacts, making it more attractive and comfortable.

A theatre, by its own definition, it is a box inside another box. So the main idea was to create small boxes inside of a bigger one. This bigger box is a concrete megastructure where everything happens inside. It is subdivided and organized into bands according to the needs in every moment of the building, without breaking the main concept.

The last diagram answer about the functionality of the project. It is divided in three parts: public, private and facilities. On the public area it is located the hall, both accesses of the theatre and both theatre rooms. On the private area are located all the service and artists facilities for the good functionality of the theatre. And finally the connector area, which are located all the facilities and the vertical communications (stairs and elevators).
