Art in the Streets

Art in the Streets was an exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. Curated by its then-director Jeffrey Deitch, it surveyed the development of graffiti and global street art from the 1970s to the present.

The MOCA recently returned to an older iteration of their logo and branding. The Art in the Streets exhibit came with certain problems in that it conflicted with the trademark of the MOCA brand. Street comes from a niche of rebellious anarchists that conflicts with the prestige and culture of the contemporary museum setting.

Two typographic depictions of the "Art in the Streets" title are presented concurrently around the MOCA logo. One is clean, modern as typical contemporary museum branding. The other is rough and illustrative conflicted with the grid. Below are the poster and mockups in other settings and billboards.
