TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.
The first annual TEDxOxbridge welcomed guest from around the world to the small but influential city of Oxford. Conceptualize and executed by a small group of MBA candidates, it was the perfect setting to challenge traditional norms of progress in light of financial, social, and economic turmoil of the day. The challenge would be to put on a TED level event within a month under budget constraints. Design was key in arranging the themes as well as conveying a spirit of exploration to the audience.

In creating a space for this discourse, it was apt to use existing business metaphors juxtaposed with odd, almost discomforting, images. Each image represents a seasoned Oxford thinker, but also a necessary revisiting of sacred images we take for granted. Playing on the 800 year history of the university, and the innovation needed in this time, we were in a funny spot for the day, force to think for the next 800.

The day was full of inspiration. Quick 20 minute talks, from floating hotels, to delivering vaccines. Though I spent most of the talks in an A/V booth, it was a pleasure to work with a high performing team on such a relevant subject matter.

Looking back, these talks are just as important to me as my lectures. I cherish these settings for discourse and exploration of what could be. I am also reminded that this is not the first time I've convened a large group of great people, nor will it be the last. At least I hope not, as those are the moments I live for.
