CATANIA NERA
CATANIA, NERA come i sette strati delle più antiche colate laviche, che hanno di volta in volta plasmato, modificato e modellato il maestoso lembo di crosta rocciosa su cui è sorta la città che puntualmente veniva distrutta per poi essere pazientemente ricostruita.
NERA come i conci di basalto delle absidi normanne del Duomo, e come la maggior parte di tutte le settecentesche architetture barocche che dominano il centro storico della città.
NERA come se le colonizzazioni Greco Calcidese, Romana, Bizantina, Araba, Normanna, Sveva, Angioina, Aragonese, Spagnola, Sabauda, Austriaca e Borbonica, sovrapposte tra loro, dessero lo stesso risultato che si ottiene dalla sintesi sottrattiva dei colori primari.
NERA come i terribili episodi di faida mafiosa, di estorsioni, d’intimidazioni, di delitti liberi da pene, d’illegalità diffusa, di abusivismo commerciale che l’hanno devastata forse ancor più delle potenti eruzioni dell’Etna.

CATANIA, is BLACK like the seven layers of the most ancient lava streams that have gradually shaped, moulded, and modelled the huge strip of heart upon which the city - later destroyed and rebuilt over and over - arose.
BLACK like the blocks of basalt Norman apses of the Cathedral, and like most of all eighteenth-century baroque architecture that dominate the city's historic center.
