Festival of Slavs and Vikings (Graduation Work)

Festival of Slavs and Vikings in Wolin is one of the largest outdoor historical events in Poland. Held annually in the summer and lasts for three days. The festival is organized on the island called Ostrów, where's located a museum, visited by a lot of tourists. The festival enjoys a great popularity, because of the two main attractions: sea maneuvers of ancient ships replicas and combats of warriors, dressed in armors weighing almost 30 kg. There are also ancient crafts workshops, performances of Slavic and Vikings rituals and games, contests and tournaments, also for children. In a certain hours, bands from Poland and other countries are play early medieval music.

Visual identity of the festival is simple, consistent and organized. The symbol has been refreshed and modernized, but it's still a viking boat. Font Alegreya Sans fits well in the early medieval atmosphere. Colors in the identification are similar to the logo. There are also the geometric ornaments, referring to the ancient Slavic and Viking decorative motifs. Such as six-pointed rosette, also known as the flower of life or star, which according to legends, has magical properties. Ornaments appear on the website, leaflet, tickets, mead label and gadgets.

Illustrations were created under the influence of various historical sources. Some of them refer to the ancient legends and beliefs, for example to the myth of the Viking berserkers – invincible warriors, changing into the wolves, or to the cosmic tree, where human souls nest like a birds – Slavic land of the afterlife, called Wyraj.
