NC State Graphic Design- Freshman Year

One of my first Graphic Design assignments was to choose a letter and an object and combine them as a vector. The goal was to create what could be a logo and to combine the two elements without losing the shape of the letterform.
This assignment was to design a typeface using a theme of my choice. I chose the theme of music and designed the letters first by hand, then as vector illustrations. The goal of the project was to embody or symbolize, not imitate; to accomplish this, I tried to create letterforms that evoke the feelings of certain instruments without directly resembling their forms.
The project above was based on a chair chosen from the Hunt library at my school. The assignment was to create two compositions; one composition was to focus on the chair and the other on some context of the chair. As my context, I chose to look at the designer's intention to use minimal materials and interesting geometric shapes, and the chair's use of negative space.
This assignment was presented as a 5-sided accordian-fold with each side being 8"x8". The project was to create an instruction manual for a simple task, to be displayed as an accordian-fold, and to consider function and flow when designing it.
This project was to design two posters with similar compositions and the same text, but with very different meanings.
This assignment was to transform one object or word into another using 7 frames or fewer.
