With this project I wanted to create something that heightened the position of the electric water boiler to the level of a professional kitchen tool.
Professional kitchen tools are often simple, containing few parts and with visible rigid fastening elements.
I wanted to create a minimalistic functional design that proudly showed its mechanical elements and materials.
Induction
Instead of using a power connector this kettle uses an induction plate that heats the internal iron core of the pitcher. Only smooth easy to clean surfaces.
Interface
Making this UI I wanted something minimalistic and very simple. The outer red ring shows the current temperature inside the kettle and the inner white bar lets you set the goal for the outer ring.
Once you press start the Red bar will chase the white bar until it reaches its goal.

As simple as it looks. Select temperature. Press start on the screen or manual button. Wait or STOP.
Hinge
I wanted a technical solution that is true to the material and exudes professionalism. By integrating the hinge into the stainless pitcher wall it gives an honest and professional look.
It's also a Snap of lid connector and power (low voltage) transfer in the same part.

Lid
Drawing inspiration from milk pitchers it shows functionality by the smooth angular thumb rest, breaking the static surface of the display and frame.
The top lid conical shape and silicone covering creates a seal against the pitcher walls steering the steam up through the spout, protecting the hands.

Layers
The outer layer is made out of powder coated stainless steel that follows the conical shape, strengthening the upward dynamic curve.
The powder coated outer-layer gives the pitcher a slightly textured surface similar to cast iron, a beautiful contrast against the polished steel and a more inviting surface to touch. The two walls are then insulated and sealed so minimal heat is lost or transferred.

Display
The display has a slight chamfer elevated over the protective frame to give a glass a feeling of craftsmanship and signaling the border transition by breaking the reflections.
The display is a separate unit protected from heat by a layer or air and hollow silicone seal. It communicates and draws power from the bottom plate via induction and RFID all through the same hinge.

Handle
Factoring in ergonomics, minimalism and keeping true to the idea of professionalism the handle was created as a single piece of steel bent into shape visible from the side. The grip is molded onto the handle reflecting the body language and signaling hand placement with the pistol-like grip cut out.
