Thaipusam festival
in Mumbai's Daravi district, India 2012
Thaipusam is one of the most important festivities for Hindu people all over the world in order to feast the son of Shiva, Lord Subramanya. The holy celebrations take place between three and four days by the end of January/ beginning of February.During the celebrations many attendants fall into trance and get their bodies gored with sticks which can be several meters long. This celebration had been held in Mumbai's Daravi slum area and was quite small, but even more authentic and fascinating.
