BACHELOR | 3RD YEAR 2ND SEM | PROPOSED COMM. MOSQUE |

The illustrations shown below is for my mini thesis dissertation and my final design project before graduating Bachelor of Science in Architecture.

For this project, the site I have selected is located in Kampung Melayu Lima Kedai, Johor. This site was chosen because the village does not have a proper mosque.

Along with the main function of the mosque as a religious center, the proposed community mosque shall serve as a hub for other social activities. The building shall serve the public, without being partial to other religions. With this proposed community building, it can create a positive organizational impact between different members of the community.

The proposed community mosque also provides areas to accommodate other religion’s activities, such as wedding ceremonies. The payment for rental on these large areas can add to the finance for development of the village.

Nevertheless, the building does not lose its Islamic identity which is reflected with the cufic and Islamic pattern on skin of the building. With this distinctive characteristic, the building shall serve as an icon for the community.

The space planning of the building was inspired from the Sujud (prostrating position at Islamic prayer). Psychological aspect of this inspiration derives from the low prostration before the Creator, thus humbling oneself and scrapping one’s arrogant nature.
