ARCH 3603 Spring 2011
A structural model of a lightweight paper-tube canopy designed by Shigeru Ban and Buro Happold was built as the final project for a course in structural systems.
Construction required a digital 3D model of every structural member, transposing it to a milling file, and finally cutting and soldering individual brass and aluminum members on a milled “template”. In total, over 700 pieces were soldered and assembled to generate the arched form of the canopy.
