MTG Colour Studies
A collection of thumbnail speed paintings done in an afternoon; drawn from the settings and art in the trading card game Magic the Gathering with my own personal take. My end goal was to treat this process like a pseudo-job and narrow down my options to one final finished illustration.
The final layout of all nine speed paintings. Each frame is 30 min or less done in Photoshop. Basic forms and lighting established.

"Steam Vents" thumbnail no.2, was heavily considering fleshing this image out into a more refined painting.
By far the most ambitious thumbnail of the nine. "Sacred Foundry" is based in Red and White in the MTG universe and was the thumbnail I ended up finishing.
This image known as "Breeding Pool" is based in Blue and Green.
The final illustration for "Sacred Foundry". This image was a lot for me to take on. Some elements are intentially left unfinished simply to imply space. I took shortcuts where I needed to because of the scale of the image. I also took shortcuts because if the image were to be printed in a card frame it would be no bigger then 1.5"x2".
