EVERLONG

This song puts a lump in my throat, a tremble in my lip. This song is one of my top favorites. The band Foo Fighters, have been immortalized by this record.

"Dave Grohl’s vocals constantly rotate between being nearly-soothing and impossibly savage. It’s this hot/cold, rough/shiny mixture that turns the song from a really great rock song into an epic force. His bestial screams in the chorus would resonate from a thousand mile distance. Something about his throaty growls really turn up the intensity knob and give the song an overhaul in passion. And when compared to the poetry in the lyrics, his gruffness seems almost out of place. You would expect the following lyrics to come out of a soft-spoken, ruffled shirt-wearing novelist, not a hard rock icon:

“And I wonder/ If everything could ever feel this real forever/ If anything could ever be this good again/ The only thing I’ll ever ask of you/ You’ve got to promise not to stop when I say when.”

It’s simplistic. It’s eloquent. It’s beautiful. As is the famous guitar riff that comes in during the verses. It’s just four, very similar sounding chords played over and over to an unsophisticated strumming pattern, but it fits the uncomplicated aura that the song gives off."

This project I began with sketching with a pencil, instead of my pilot parallel pen. I tried to keep it like the Foo Fighters, Script wordmark, 'FF'

My initial sketches were a bit raw, and I screwed up in the inking process and ended up using a picture I clicked before inking as a reference, while I pen tool'ed the lettering.

This song has been the hardest one to create a poster, I have tried about 100's of ideas and sketches over the last two years, until today morning I hit the jackpot.

Eureka! I exclaimed when I played the song and an image of how I wanted it to Look flashed in my head. I quickly began sketching and went to Illustrator, the energy and eagerness of seeing the final product come to live was astounding.

As soon as I had a the basic outline, I started refining them, I completely overhauled the letter 'e' twice and change the colors from Blue to green to the final red.

I hope you like this lettering poster as much as you love this song.

Dave Grohl, You are a Living Legend,
This is my tribute to you.

Cheers,
Shrey
