Graphic Stylisation

Brief:
To create an illustrated book cover on one of the 4 book choices we were given. Which are: To Kill a Mocking Bird, Animal Farm, The Great Gatsby and Gone with the wind. In addition to that, each of the books was tied to their own specific style that we had to work on.

Medium:
Adobe Illustrator

Book Chosen:
Animal farm

Style:
Constructivism

Concept behind the work
Animal farm was a book about tyranny of Napoleon over the other animals in the farm.
While I watching the Animal Farm Movie for inspiration, there was a theme that kept resurfacing throughout the whole video: Manipulation.

To depict Manipulation, I have chosen a image of a chessboard to sum up the whole story as the cover. this was also inspired by a specific scene of the animals gathering for ther first meeting to over throw the humans. Building on it, I used the El Lissitzky unique constructivism style of geometric forms as it was a variant style from the usual constructivism art stlye, and rigid forms would convey the chessboard more efftectively

Final Piece
The Biggest Chess Piece: Napoleon
Illustrating him as the biggest piece on the board, and positioning him as one of the most important piece on the board, the king, I aimed to show that he is a the biggest player in this game of manipulation.
Animal pieces:
The animals are the main victims of the book, hence they are made in resemblance with the weaker pieces on the board. They are also broken, with bits and pieces sticking out from them
