Modern Bedouin Clutch

As a part of my "Fashion Accessories Design" course at university, this project, required me to adopt the technique of weaving to create an accessory inspired by any tribe or culture of my choice.

Knowing me and how attached I'am to my arabian roots, I picked the fascinating "Bedouins" as the inspiration to my accessory. Not to mention, they were known for their woven masterpieces.

My research was based on the "urbanized" Bedouins in specific. I was captivated by how strongly they held on to their culture, art and traditions even after the urbanization of their old lifestyle, and I wanted to capture that in my piece. So I chose to create a clutch, which in my perspective was the "urbanized" form of a regular bag.

The clutch features a moden color palette, while staying true to the original patterns and styles of the traditional Bedouins. And last but not least, the suede tassels were a modern twist on the traditional carpet fringe.

The clutch is made out of several individually woven wool strips, that were later on compiled and sewn together, to represent the eclectic bedouin tent.
The base colors used were balck and white to represent the Bedouins' monochrome surroundings and how they add color to that through their crafts.
