Collective Housing and Modularity - Koeningshoffen

The concept of this project lies in a basic module, creating different sizes of apartments, but also common rooms for residents (laundry, local dustbins, garden shed, bike shed, common room), and professionals building (shops , personal services ...)

We propose a new way to live and invest the Koenigshoffen neighborhood located in Strasbourg.

Each module, extended by low walls, play with space, tightened or wide, protected or open.

This organisation prevents vis-à-vis, allows the interaction and dialogue between different neighbours.

The main idea is to offer each housing an individual outdoor area (terrace, protected from view although not close) and common areas, encouraging meetings (spaces between the houses, gardens).

The recess of the ground to the street creates a boundary between public space and private space. Gateways that serve each housing allow a smooth transition from the lively street to the quieter habitat.

The journey to reach one’s home is not repeated: there is a uniqueness feeling, despite the repetition of modules.

There is also a play on the materiality of the ground between green fields, concrete blade to indicate the paths and wooden strips to mark the entrance to a terrace.
