The Descent Of The Dodo

The Descent of the Dodo is a four part photo-play that proposes an alternate version of the well-known story of the Dodo. I constructed the story for the camera in miniature, hand sewing the Dodos out of felt. I’ve often used felt to construct my work because it is playful and impressionistic. Felt allows me to create energetic images with plenty of room for the viewer’s imagination to fill in the gaps and enter into the work.

My version of the dodo story is best introduced by a quote from Da Vinci’s notebooks: ‘Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.’
