LEGO BUCKET
Entry for SCA Design Challenge 03
The Packaging Concept

The Lego Bucket replaces the current 6166 Lego Large Brick Box. The packaging is easy to store in retail environment and at home. It also stands out in the stores with its unique and playful shape.
The packaging has a shovel in it, which aids in the clearing up of the after play mess. It also brings play value to the children´s games. Legos can now be stored easily at home, friends house, day care center or while traveling.
It is also a good interior element for childrens´ rooms. I tried to keep the classic Lego feel in the packaging by using basic, easy to recognize shapes and bright colours.

The Consumer Experience

I took the parents and the gift givers into account in the packaging´s graphics. There is space to write to whom the present is addressed to, who has bought it and when. The gift giver can also leave a personal message on the packaging. In this way the packaging have more value to the lucky owner and will not be thrown away as easily.
Number Forest

The packaging presents the bricks in an inspiring and fun way.
It also shows the number of bricks.
Playing Value

When the packaging is opened, you will find out that the lid is shaped like a shovel. It can be used in different kind of plays as a prop, but the main idea is that it helps the children to collect their Legos back to the packaging.
In the graphics I wanted to use excavator´s shovel to resemble the surprise hidden in the packaging. Inside the Lego Bucket there is a manual book that´s cover can be cut off. Children can hang this cover from the doors handle, when they start to play with Legos.
Stacking & Opening

The packaging can easily be stacked because of the modular shape. The handles supports and links the packagings together preventing the pile from falling. The packaging consists of two parts. It can be opened by pulling the inner part out. With the help of the projecting handle the packaging is easy to open even for children.
The Lego Bucket is re-closable and durable enough to survive a child´s play life. It is important for kids and adults that the packaging can be moved around the house. That is why it has handles on it. The packaging can also be hanged on the wall to save floor space.

Manufacturing & Logistics

The original Lego Large Brick Box has been made out of plastic. I chose the packaging to be made of carton tube because it is durable and recyclable material. If it can not be manufactured from carton tube the packaging could be made of corrugated cardboard as well. One Euro pallet (800x1200) has a maximum capacity of 64 packagings.

In Stores

The Lego packaging can be displayed in stores in the shelves or on the floor pallet.
It can be easily hung as well.
