Where even the darkness is something to see
Industrial music encompasses a wide spectrum of experimental music which emerged as a reaction to punk’s failed promises of revolution. Contemporaries to the post-punk movement, Throbbing Gristle were the pioneers of industrial music, transcending the boundaries between music and sound, artist and audience to express their dissatisfaction with society.
Based on the book England’s Hidden Reverse, we have endeavoured to build three compilations that show the evolution these bands underwent from their raw industrial roots up to the elegant maturity they achieved.
Throbbing Gristle were explosive yet short-lived. However, from their ashes spawned a number of artists: Chris & Cosey, Psychic TV, COIL, Current 93 and Nurse With Wound. These acts came to represent the crystallisation of the British industrial scene, each developing their unique approach to sound.
