Inspired by the Abstract Expressionism, Interpreting nature and calligraphy, form and dynamic movement against the series of painting “Embracing the forms. Emptiness” 本来无意物depicts the combined principles of Western chiaroscuro and Asian calligraphy. I made a significant innovation by employing a panoramic perspective typical of the Western landscapes in order to modernize the traditional Chinese ink painting while never losing the traditional practice of seeing nature in its spiritual existence and depicting in its conceptualize forms. Trying to display an innovative new aesthetic, this series of painting reveal an increasing visual sophistication and juxtaposition of compositional elements.
As tradition and innovation coexist in this painting, different elements are unified to make a perfect balance, plain yet glamorous, moderate yet expressive and simple yet powerful nature with calligraphy masterpiece that reflects my interpretations in penetrating the essence of Dao. Primarily based on mindscapes and natural formations, deliver a powerful sensation of nature and Chinese calligraphy from a distant horizon, filtering through mountain peaks and valleys. These painting also incorporate the philosophical concepts of Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism, leading the works which is not only a mindscape rendered in abstraction but rather, the ideology passes through my interpretations of Wu Wei and emptiness.
Hence, between abstraction and calligraphy this series of painting also act as a form of cross road of Western and Chinese concept of painting and depict the internalization of physical sensation from contemplating nature. To sum up this painting declaring that conveying the spirit is more important than painting the forms.
