This unconventional piece of furniture was inspired by minimalist sculptor Fred Sandback whose work I had seen at Dia: Beacon. In his work, he used wire or yarn to create virtual shapes by defining their edges in space.
I researched fabric and elastic that would support a varied range of weight. Strength, comfort and elasticity were my top priorities.
One could just fall into the fabric, giving way for a seat
The two dimensional nature of the chair makes it easy to move around and store away.
The chair comes in two configurations. A single triangular frame that can be propped up against a wall and sat into.
And four triangles coming together as a pyramid to serve as public seating.
