Möbius
This projects inspiration came in the form of the Google Drive logo, which employs a similar idea of the Mobius strip. I then expanded upon this and decided that it would be a good logo for a technology or clothing company. The idea took many sketches but eventually culminated in a more simplified final product than I had first visulaized.
What was your project about?
My project was designed to be suitable for any generic company looking for a logo suited to industrial design. Over the course of the project it developed into a logo that to me would work best when used by a technology company.
How did I proceed?
I started out by researching geometric shapes and currently successful logos within the industrial design category. I spent a large amount of time visualising logos and researching shaping and tessellation. Then, once the concept of Mobius became more clear I looked for logos that may have been based up on it before, seeing logos from Adobe Reader and Google Drive that were loosely based on the shape I decided to continue my own designs knowing it could be used in a professional setting.
How long did the project take?
Overall, including time coming up with the concept, the research and the actual creation, the project took approximately 5 hours. Typically projects take longer but this one took shape remarkably quickly, but it was spread across many days with short amounts of time spent thinking about any number of designs in my head, as I wanted this final project to look good.
What are you proud of?
I’m particularly proud of the simplicity of the design and the professional look I was capable of achieving. I would like to think this would not look out of place as the logo for a new program coming out of a large technology company.
What still needs to be done?
To further this project I would like to see more development in possible uses of the logo, such as on leaflets and flyers. I would also like to spend more time searching for fonts that could be used for the writing underneath; as although I spent a long time searching for a clean looking font that would suit it, there may be a better suited font out there or I could design my own. This would enable the company to use the font on future branding such as Apple using Helvetica in all of their advertising material.
