Youngster, are you AFRAID?

"Youngster, are you AFRAID?" deals with the European Economic crisis of recent years. Precisely I talked about the unemployed young people’s mood, their future perspectives, their feelings, their emotions and, above all, their fears.

This work debates about an important and disquieting subject of nowadays: young discomfort and, in particular, the listless way wherein they look around and think about the future. This ought to encourage the human‘s life, because only thinking about the people’s objectives, the present moves.

Those who share this fear are above all the young people who, living in a society which does not give to them any right input and any hope for a better future, are disoriented.

Being this an European problem, I believe that it ought to affect everyone, it is essential to talk about that, also in the fashion world and in the fashion pictures. For this reason I present my project as a complaint denouncing more and more like an helping shout for this dramatic moment through the depiction of unemployed youths’ mood.

For realizing this project I was inspired, by a telling person, Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900). More of one century ago, he predicted the future of fall pray to the nihilism period, “disquieting guest”. There is an air of fear, uncertainty, opacity which envelops our present moment and above all the young people. This situation is perceived by observing the fear, the insecurity, the living unsuitableness, sense of powerlessness, catastrophic view, the emotional and sentimental emptiness which accompanies the relationships between the individuals, the lack of expectations towards the future. A perception of precariousness.

The definition of nihilism is the lack of aim (and so an uncertain future), the lack of response to “why” and so every value underestimates itself.

Heidegger talked about nowadays like the time of absence, lack of datum-points.

In fact the life of humans is animated not because you push forwards, but because before there is something that attracts; we move because it is the future that attracts and there are aims to be achieved.

The life spring is the future, not the past or the present. The future flashing objectives to achieve, moves.

When it lacking a purpose, when the future is unpredictable, when promises nothing, then we collapse.

For the youths of nowadays, without job, the future is not a promise, but a threat.

I held some interviews to unemployed youths, which helped me to understand which kind of emotions they feel and how to represent them in my pictures.

Every picture represents a feeling, caused by Economic crisis.
