An Indiegogo campaign contribution for the upcoming movie, The Void. A horror movie that upon first viewing looks like some demonic marriage of John Carpenter's The Thing and Dead Space, so imagine my giddiness upon seeing a $10 contribution to do a page for a Book of the Void. The objective: fill the page with nightmarish sketches, or disturbed prose; creative direction is free and open. The completed page will then be incorporated into the on-screen film prop of a cult diary.
I spent a chunk of time on Pinterest getting inspiration and ideas only to come to the realization that my Akira project sketchbooks fall in the realm of what this movie is seeking. Going through my sketchbooks, I chose three pages that showed promise, grabbed my tracing paper and began outlining them. Afterwards, I laid them on top of each other looking for the right position, combination, and layout. Once satisfied I transferred them to the page I was provided from my contribution using graphite. I then cleaned up the lines and rendered my artwork with a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen (which gave me a loose style that mirrored much of what I saw in necronomicon artwork). To give the look of being a page from an ancient book with blood stained marks (my homage to Evil Dead), I went to Photoshop with my textures.
The rest is history.
