Bikerack for Kunsthalle Budapest

Bikerack for Kunsthalle Budapest

Winner of a student design competition.
Realised project.

Műcsarnok is one of the classical main institutes of contemporary fine art in Budapest, Hungary. It's located at Heroes' Square, which is a World Heritage Area that has been built in the 19th century. They organized an open competition for students to design their unique bikerack.

According to the intensive environment, we decided to design a calm, but contemporary object that can give some extra comfort to its users beside its original function. The concept based on the folding of an enlarged museum entrance ticket. The pattern based on the museum's own pattern which is well known among the visitors.

The folded top part of the bikerack can keep dry the saddle and protect it against theft. Is also works as a little desk which also might be useful when someone arrives with a lot of stuffs. To define the right height of the bickrack we measured more than a hundred bikes downtown Budapest. The current height fits to 94 percent of the bikes. For taller bicycles it works as a bikerack but can't protect against the rain.
