Qoyllur Ritty - PER

This is an old religious custom practiced only by the inhabitants of the Peruvian Andes. Every small village or clan from the city of Cusco in Peru, sends a delegation with colorful dancers and "pabluchas" to the sanctuary of Qoyllur Ritty which is located at 4800 meters above sea level. They make a pilgrimage of five hours from the nearest town, the visit to the sanctuary is followed by a procession that lasts 24 hours.

This ritual, associated with the land’s fertility and the worship of the Apus (mountains, tutelary deities), is one of the greatest parties taken place in America’s indigenous nations.
