Queerky (quirky + queer*) is a zine created using writing generated by queer*-identifying students, as a client project for OUSA Queer Support in 2013.

*Queer is used by OUSA Queer Support as "an umbrella term to describe NZ sexual gender diverse communities. [They] realise and honour that it is not the preferred term for everyone, nor is it widely culturally applicable".
Queerky issue 1 was published in 3 themed volumes – nature, goals and care.
The zines were set to be presented at the Dunedin Zinefest 2013.
All the zines were printed using a risograph machine and only utilising soy-based inks.
The zines were popular in their distribution throughout the community – over half of the initial print run was gone within a day. Each volume was printed in runs of 100-120 (total of up to 360 zines).
The format was designed with student communities in mind – the poster on the back would encourage students to keep the zine, then re-read it at the end of the year when they take the poster down to move flats.
When unfolded, each volume displayed a large-scale poster featuring an illustration relating to the theme of that volume.
All of the typography and illustrations were executed by me. This project was my first encounter with hand-rendered typography and it truly gave me a new appreciation for dynamic layouts.
